Come Home, Dave!

Dave is still in Orlando at the Urology Conference, and I'm beginning to go stir crazy =) There are only so many conversations you can have with a 9 month old, and my co-workers are all about 3 states down, so I don't get to chat with them much either. This weekend, I hung out quite a bit with the JLAA girls, but that was like 3 days ago! So here I sit, watching American Idol, eating the highly addictive and extremely fattening Salty, Sweet, & Nutty Trek Mix from Trader Joe's, and "chatting" with all of you!

Actually, it is kind of nice that Dave is away tonight so I can watch the whole American Idol finale. Granted, it's cheesy as heck, but I get a kick out of those montage-dance routines where they all sing together. Dave would make me use TIVO to condense this show into the 3 minutes it actually takes to announce the winner. Go David Cook! David Archuleta is a great singer, but he annoys me with how "tender" he is. I think he should go and sing on animated Disney movies. Can't you just hear him? "I can show you the world... shining shimmering splendid!"

Not much new to report on the Avery front. Of COURSE she is coming down with another cold. I swear as soon as she gets over one, she gets another. I knew I shouldn't have left her in the church nursery... Her naps aren't going superbly, but she is sleeping much better at night and has put herself to sleep every night this week at like 7:30pm. (Don't want to jinx her though). She has her 9 month appt tomorrow so I'm dreading her shots =(

She is eating me out of house and home this week. She must be going through a growth spurt because she is starving! She cried all during breakfast because I wasn't feeding her oatmeal fast enough, and then she drank 8 oz of formula, where she normally drinks 4. It continued like that all day, so I took it as inspiration to think up some more snacks for her. She has been a great eater ever since I started her on solids. Her favorites have always been sweet potatoes and pears, she also likes butternut squash, peaches, prunes, peas, green beans, zucchini, etc. I've been making most of her food myself- it's fun! I just bake everything, puree it in the food processor I got for my birthday, put it into ice cube trays, then put the cubes into ziplock bags so they're ready to pop out and thaw in individual servings. Here are some pics from earlier this month:
It's not that I think Gerber foods are unsafe or anything, (and I do use theirs for traveling and for the prunes) but they just look so unappetizing. Their sweet potatoes are a watery mess, and my pureed sweet potatoes are so yummy I snack on them too. I don't add anything to them, so I don't know what happened to the poor Gerber sweet potatoes. Plus it's so cheap to make your own, and I'm... how shall I put this... thrifty? =) Anyway, Avery much enjoyed my food, until recently she has decided she wants to feed herself. She's been grooving on Cheerios and Puffs for a while, and now I'm giving her more and more variety. I've given her pasta, diced fruit, peas, cooked diced potatoes, organic eggless waffle pieces, and shredded cheese. This week we started a new snack time tradition- both of us snuggle up on the couch at 4pm for some Oprah, string cheese, and graham crackers. It's very cute. I started meats at 9 months, so last week she tried pork tenderloin and chicken breast. Tonight I made her (and I) stir fry of ground turkey breast, onions, and zucchini. It was yummy! Here are the foods she does NOT like: cottage cheese, plain yogurt, avocados, bananas, cantaloupe. Anyway, I'm sure you were all dying to hear a run down of Avery's menu. I told you I was bored!

I don't have much to report this week since we had work on Mon/Tues. I tried to work out in the yard some more, but she wasn't really feeling it:

Email me if you have finger food suggestions!
